Flights to Ireland: choose the right arrival

Compare Dublin, Cork, Shannon, Knock and Belfast against your actual Ireland itinerary, with a practical checklist for the complete journey.

Choose the holiday before the airport

Start with the places where you want to spend most of your time. A Dublin city break and a week based in Clare lead to different arrival choices. Compare the total journey from your home to the first night’s accommodation, not just the fare shown for the flight.

List the arrival airports you can realistically use, then compare onward transport, arrival time and the final-day return. If an alternative airport saves money but adds a tiring transfer at both ends, decide whether that trade-off suits the length of your holiday.

Compare these starting points

Dublin is the starting point to investigate for a Dublin-focused trip. For a southern itinerary, compare Cork. For a Clare or western route, include Shannon in the comparison. Ireland West Airport Knock is another western arrival to consider when it fits the places you plan to visit. These are planning starting points, not claims that a particular route is available from your home airport.

For a northern itinerary, compare Belfast options carefully: Belfast International and Belfast City are different airports. Check the airport name as well as the city in every booking and onward-transfer plan. If your trip crosses the border, verify the applicable entry and rental conditions for your own circumstances before committing.

Compare the complete fare

Use the same dates, passenger numbers and baggage needs when comparing options. Add any charges that matter to your trip, such as checked luggage, seat selection or a changeable fare. The least expensive initial result may not remain the cheapest once it matches what you need.

Read the conditions for the actual fare and seller. Keep a record of the baggage allowance, payment total and change or cancellation rules before purchase. Do not treat a cached fare in an article as a live offer; this page does not publish unverified prices or invented availability.

Check the first and last day

Look at when the flight arrives in relation to the onward journey and accommodation check-in. If you are collecting a rental car, confirm the desk and collection arrangements for that time. For public transport, plan a realistic connection and a fallback if the flight is delayed.

On the return day, allow time for travel to the airport, any car return and the airport’s current departure advice. Avoid placing a distant attraction before a flight simply because it appears to fit on a route map. The final morning is usually a good place to keep the itinerary uncomplicated.

Turn arrival into a useful first base

Once the airport comparison is clear, choose the first base and connect it to the rest of your route. Our Dublin hub, Clare guide and west-coast itinerary help make that next decision. A sensible arrival plan should leave you ready to enjoy the place, not only relieved to have reached it.

Flight availability changes with season and departure point. This is an independent planning guide; when verified partner searches are available, they will appear separately with an affiliate disclosure. Until then, the page makes no claim to compare live fares or sell tickets.
